How to take your pictures

The better the photos you send me the better you will be able to see any adjustments I make and I recommend you take some pictures especially for the purpose. They certainly don’t have to be professional but it makes a big difference if they are well lit and in focus.

To give you a good overall idea of how FFS will feminise your face it is best to send 3 pictures - a frontal shot, a profile shot and a ¾ profile where the face is turned a little to one side. Most people send me 3 pictures but even if you only want me to work on one, you still need to send me all 3 angles so I get a good all round view of your face and can make a better assessment of your FFS needs.

Here (thanks to a generous volunteer that we’re going to call “Sam”) is an example of what I mean:

As you can see they are well lit and nicely in focus. The features can all be seen clearly and they stand out nicely against the blank background. Sam’s hairline is clearly visible because of her short hair but if your hair is longer it will help if you tie it back. Notice that her expression is fairly blank which makes it easier to assess the true shape of the features. Also notice that Sam is in “male mode” and not wearing any make-up; this can help give you a more realistic view of what to expect.

Don’t be put off if you do not have the means to take pictures of the same quality – these are just to illustrate the kind of thing to aim for. Try not to have the camera too close to your face – if it’s too close you can get lens distortion.

I recommend the camera is at least 6 feet (2 meters) away from your face and should be at eye level.

It is better to have the camera far away from the subject and to use a “zoom” to get closer if you have to. Again don’t worry if you can’t do these things - just send the best pictures you can and I’ll let you know if I can do useful work on them (you won’t be charged if I can’t!)

Please try to keep file sizes between about 150 KB and 300 KB per picture.

If you have trouble getting them down to this size just let me know – I might be able to advise you and if necessary I can always accept larger pictures and reduce the file size myself.

Other options

If you only want one picture done I recommend the ¾ profile because it will give you an idea of both the frontal and profile view at the same time. If you want 2 done I still recommend one ¾ profile but for the second picture send whatever angle you think will best show any adjustments.

Some people also like to have the adjustments made to a picture of their everyday appearance wearing make-up and with their usual hairstyle so they can see how it will all look in everyday life – this is up to you.

These are only recommendations. Basically, the more clearly the photo/s show your face and its bone structure, the more clearly you will be able to see the adjustments but if you have a particular photo you would like me to work on, regardless of the photos technical merits, do feel free to send it.
